Content Lock is a CV ecommerce multisite content management feature. It can also be used to restrict content editing to specific roles on a single site. Contact Commerce Vision to enable.

How Content Lock Works

Content Lock provides the Administrator and/or Content Administrator roles with content control:

  • on a single site - lock/unlock specific content from other roles 
  • on multiple sites - lock/unlock specific content of target sites remotely from a source site (when used with Deploy Content).     

Role-based permissions

Content Administrator role: When Content Lock is enabled on your site, this role is addedbecomes availlable.

  • This The Content Administrator role can control:
  • on a single or source site: lock and unlock data types and items
  • on a single or source site: add, edit and delete locked objects
  • on a target site: control what locked content is deployed to networked target sites (if Deploy Content is used with Lock Content)  
  • on a target site: unlock deployed content for editing (if Deploy Content is used with Lock Content) 

NOTE - The CMS Admin Administrator role as super user has all Content Admin permissions by default.


Enable Content Lock

CMS Admin and Content Admin roles can enable and disable content locking on a site after the feature has been switched on by Commerce Vision.  

To enable/disable locking:

In the CMS, go to SettingsSettingsFeature Management ContentContent Lock.

    With Content Lock enabled, a

    The Content Lock feature must be enabled on each site by Commerce Vision. NOTE - If Content Lock and Deploy Content are enabled on a source site but NOT on a target site, locked content will be deployed as unlocked content. It can be edited on the target site.      


    When Content Lock is enabled on a site, the feature does not display the 'Contact to Enable' button (Image Added).

    Assign Roles & Permissions

    Assign Content Administrator role - With Content Lock enabled, the CMS Administrator can assign the Content Administrator role to specific users who are to manage content locking . Other users will be able on the single or source site. NOTE - By default, the Content Administrator also has all Deploy Content permissions.  

    View Content Deployment permission - Commerce Vision can enable permission for any role to view but not edit locked deployed content (on a single or target site). NOTE -  Non-admin users cannot view widget contents when the widget or template is locked
