Overview
Cart retention can save the user's cart contents under two scenarios:
- guest (not logged in) user session timeout (when user closes the browser)
- cart abandonment by guest or logged in user (when user adds items to their shopping cart but leaves your store without making the purchase).
Retaining cart items allows the user to continue where they left off when they return to your store. They won't have to find the same items and re-add them. NOTE - Prices will always reflect the most up-to-date on your site.
Step-by-step guide
Enable Guest Retention Settings
- In CMS, go to Settings → Feature Management → Users.
- Toggle ON Cart Retention Settings, then click Configure.
- Cart Retention Settings:
- Enable Retain Guest User Order when Session Timeout (Guest Users Only) - save a not logged in user's cart contents when session expires
- Enable Abandoned Cart Restoration (logged in and guest users) - if a logged in or guest user has items in the cart and leaves your site, restore the cart when they return
- Expiry in Days - number of days to retain cart contents. Default: 7 days
- Click Save or Save & Exit.
Additional Information
Cart retention saves the user's cart contents for later when a session expires for a guest user or when any user's cart is abandoned.
