What are Menu Items?
Menu items are used to control the permissions of web pages to a group of audience. Menu codes are set against each role and can be shared across different roles.
Use menu items to maintain the following properties:
- Menu Title
- Authentication
- Head and Layout Template that determines the look of the page
Step-by-step guide
To create a new menu item
- Login as an administrator
- Go to "Menu Editor"
- Select the "Menu Code"
- Click on "Parent Items"
- This is the list of Top Level Items
- Identify where the new content will be with respect to your navigation structure (For example, it can be at the Top of the Navigation, or in the Footer, or as a hidden link that you can use and post on Social Media so users who arrive at the site will not see it)
- If this is a Top Level Item, continue. If this is a Sub Level Item, identify the parent item, click "Menu Items"
- Click "New" to Create a new Menu Item
- Fill in the following information

Page Name | Page Name - See Notes | If you are using a standard application page, input the page name in here - ends in .aspx If you are publishing custom content - for example, a static page like About Us, leave this blank. |
Custom Page Code | See Notes | If you are publishing custom content, select the template from the list |
Sequence | Numeric Value relative to the other entries on the page | If this item is in the navigation tree, this is the order the entry will appear |
Requires Authentication | Yes / No | Yes - the user will be required to login No - the user will be not be required to login |
Hidden | Yes / No | If this item is hidden, it will not appear as part of the navigation tree (can be accessed via the Hyperlink) Note: If this is a sub level item, and the parent is hidden, it will not be displayed |
Layout Template | Default Layout Template | Choose the layout of this page |
Note: There are other fields on this page that provides different function for the application - these fields will retain their default value.
